Part 2: Tales from AD 2028
RB is waiting at the astroport of Himalia, the eleventh moon of Jupiter. Himalia is only about 105 miles in diameter. This is a small astroport on the way to outer planets. RB is heading for the Kuiper Belt planetoid Pluto. He remembers from his childhood, the furor over Pluto when it’s status was changed from a planet to planetoid (dwarf planet).
RB’s next assignment is to work in the newly formed CTRT group which has been given enough autonomy that it is virtually unhampered by bureaucracy. CTRT is working on one of the most advanced project of mankind. Well! So RB thinks.
CTRT’s project will propel the company light-years’ ahead of its competition.
CTRT is tasked to build the Universal Turing Machine (UTM). a.
The concept of UTM is based on Alan Turing’s Universal Function which is a computable function used to calculate any other computable function.
Such a function can be stated and proved by the UTM theorem:

A UTM can compute what all the computing resources of the known human world can compute. CTRT is taking this preemptive strike to consolidate all the datacenter/hosting entities to be encoded and emulated by their UTM. This will wipe out the competition who also offers computing resource consolidation. Pairing Nanotechnology and Quantum computing, CTRT is running the Solar System’s largest particle accelerator housed in Pluto.
RB is heading to Pluto because CTRT is also having the same Dichotomy problem which is also affecting the avatars, resulting in schizophrenic behaviors of the semi sentient AIs.
And RB may have the answers. According to RB the Dichotomy problem is another expression of the same weird trait of quantum particles. When a muon is isolated from its environment, it enters into superposition, meaning it is in some mix of both spin up and spin down state.
But unknown to RB, the asteroid Apophis is carrying the answer which will raise many more questions. Apophis will make a planet fall (with Earth) on April 13, 2036.
The asteroid has been bumped up to level 4 on the Torino impact hazard scale and something sitting deep inside of Pluto is following the asteroid’s progress keenly.
But that’s another story to be told next month….
