30. December 2008 by admin.
This is the time of the year when we look back and take a stock of the past twelve months. This is also the time to look forward to the New Year. In this short post I will go a little bit further and peek into the future for next 10-30 years.
AD 2028
A typical Monday morning for a VE consultant is to rush to the airport. Likewise RB walks in to the airport and realized that he has again forgotten his avatar’s power adapter and avatar’s battery is really low.
(In early 2000s Avatar’s ancestors used to be the personal notebook computers)
No problem because his avatar switched his power source from local to Wireless Resonant Energy Link (WREL).
The beauty of WREL is that it delivers power safely and efficiently over the Wireless using a set of strongly coupled resonators. Energy is absorbed efficient at the receiving resonator’s neutral frequency.
Avatar’s batteries are being recharged as RB walks within several feet of the transmit resonator.
The last cords in mobile devices were cut in AD 2022.

While in transit RB receives a call from the PM (yes we still have them) and his avatar changes its shape from a screen to an ear piece. This technology of Programmable Matter is not perfected yet but RB likes to be in the bleeding edge and as a result he drops the call.
The Avatar’s shape-shifting material is built with millions of tiny micro-robots, called catoms. Unlike nano particles the catoms or these tiny silicon hemispheres are fabricated using photolithography (same technology used to make silicon chips in 2008). Each catom packs the necessary computational and mechanical components together across less than a millimeter of silicon real estate. Also the planar transistors are replaced with 3D transistors. Looking further out a variety of non-charge-based technologies will replace CMOS altogether.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programmable_matter The stratos-flight is as usual uneventful. RB has enough miles to indulge in the on-flight VR, while the robot attendants are serving refreshments.
Near the end of the second decade of 21st century, robotics were made personal as robots started moving and manipulating objects in the dynamic and often clutter human environments. The long dream of moving robots out of the factory environment where they were designed to perform a single task repeatedly and bolted down, to mingle with humans was achieved in 2015. These flight attendants are cognizant of their surroundings and learn to adapt to new scenarios and universally they are more polite than their now obsolete human counterparts.
RB disembarks the flight and walks towards the space elevator which will take him to Lagrange Point L4. One of RB’s oldest healthcare account’s research facilities is stationed there. RB is a virtualization specialist who will work with his biomedical counterparts to troubleshoot why some specialist avatars are suffering from schizophrenic paranoia when they are loaded with a proprietary conscious engine along side with their native open source conscious engine. Well ! that’s a tale for next time…..
And we are making a steady progress towards Kurzweil’s Singularity http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity
